George Washington LovrienI was always told that Lovrien (we pronounce it "Luv-rin") was a French name, probably because it looks French and rumors of early ties to Canada. No one was quite sure of the origin of the name or who the emigrant ancestor was. Does Lovrien mean anything in French? No. There are no Lovriens in the phonebooks of France. Could it be a geographical name, like Lorraine? If you look in an atlas, you'll find a town called Louvain in Belgium and a village in Slovenia named Lovrin. There are actually a few Lovrin families of Slovenian descent in the U.S., but they are no relation to the Lovriens. It wasn't until Cyril Goodell (a Lovrien genealogist) came into contact with Elinor Kelley of New Hampshire (a Lovering family genealogist) that the true origin of the name was discovered.

Helen Lovrien Fuller's memories of her early life as a member of the James Monroe Lovrien family, and their close relationship with other Lovrien families presents the joys, hardships, broad community interests and aspirations of many mid-western pioneers. Those close family ties and values continue with present generation members.

On August 14, 1881 in a little town of Great Bend, Minnesota a young couple was married by Rev. Savage. At that time there was nothing unusual about this event yet this marriage proved to be extraordinary for this couple lived to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary after experiencing many hardships that today few people think would be possible to tolerate.
